This project was made in 2 weeks for GDKO 2024 Round 5. The challenge was to focus on "UI polish" and not on the gameplay. Thank goodness! Time ran out before I got very far. :)

  • Focus of my "polish" was the cartoon intro, this itch page, and the wikipedia article. The intro was storyboarded and edited by me in Adobe Premiere. I smushed in 3D renders of the cat mech and manually animated over clips from Transformers, GoBots, Robotix, and Care Bears--scraped from YouTube. (SHHH don't tell the lawyers...)
  • Story, code, design, models, VHS shader, and illos by me, HugBug. This is a homebrew WebGL engine, so please let me know about bugs.
  • Terrible theme song lyrics written by me and performed by Noa. Underlying music licensed from Pond5.
  • The AniMechs idea came about while wondering what a cheesy 1980s robot toy line "for girls" would be like. The first game in the universe was a comic book space flight sim. Learn more from this imaginary Wikipedia entry.
  • Photos licensed from DepositPhotos then frankensteined in Photoshop. Bits of the VHS cover were made with NightCafe AI.
  • Voice over by ElevenLabs.
  • Sounds from Freesound.org.
  • Fonts from Fontspace.

Thanks for playing!
YOU are the BEST! :)

Holy Neon 80’s Wizardry :O That is quite impressive yet again ! Also bonus points for making a sequel to Animechs !

The whole interactive page concept to start the game and wow THAT animated intro :D i’m gonna have this banger song stuck in my head for a while that’s for sure haha.

Eventhough there’s not much to do yet once you get to the gameplay the concept has a lot of potential that’s for sure.

Mad respect :)

Like always, so well implemented into the itch-page. Good Job!

nice idea
