A Tale of Thread and Heroines

Once upon a time...

A woodcutter lived deep in the forest with his young daughter, Dayana. They were alone but happy. Instead of friends, Dayana had needle and thread. She embroidered an imaginary world of animal companions—and named it Stitchwood.

King Softhoof ruled the realm wisely.

His loyal sorceress, Starwhisker, watched for danger.

And the mighty raccoon knight, Lady BerryClaw, protected them all.

Then one winter night...

In a bone-creaking, midnight frost, Dayana's father went out to get firewood. He never returned from the snow. Dayana waited up, sewing and whispering in worry. As dawn broke she nodded off—and badly pricked her finger

Her blood dripped and soaked across Stitchwood. Dayana grew fevered and sick. Her sleep overflowed with nightmares, and a great evil tangled forth.

The Unraveling

Dayana's sickness tattered the realm. Lady BerryClaw gave her life in a final battle against the awful creatures pouring in from the edgelands. Starwhisker disappeared in a flash of sorceress smoke. The King was captured.

Finally the next night, as the wind outside her cottage howled even louder, Dayana awoke. Appalled at the bloodied mess before her, she restitched Lady BerryClaw by the light of her last candle. And this time she gave the knight a heartshine shield.

"This will protect you from the monsters. You must go and find king Softhoof," said Dayana through her tears, "he's alone in the cold. But I know he's still alive .... somewhere."

BerryClaw sensed that the king's fate was somehow tangled with Dayana's father. "Save the king and I shall save the woodcutter," she growled.

And so BerryClaw set out—on the greatest quest her world had ever known.

This game was made in 2 weeks for the lowrez game jam 2022, by me, hugbug. A lot of the engine was working before that, but the art, writing, characters, level design, 3d models, and game code was done during the jam. Music is licensed from pond5.

Hey Reddit Folks

I've been getting a lot of traffic from Reddit, but I have no idea who or where I'm linked from. Could one of you please comment and tell me where I can see the post? THANK YOU! 😊 -Hugbug

Hey, stumbled across your page (might be your Reddit source) here.

Great work on your page, I like how you embedded the control instructions into the background.

Thanks so much for letting me know!

The game was really fantastic. My only suggestion would be to add some sort of font-toggle for accessibility reasons. I was able to read everything okay though.

your page design is everything bro is beautiful, and the game is also really good. Nice work!

Extremely cute, only issue I had was the first few times I played, the red vortex near me would kill me upon starting the game.

WOw, the design is just absolutely beautiful,  the web page included!  Using a needle-stitching style is such a neat idea, and it was pulled off so well!  Amazing job!

This page is so amazing. In retrospect, i wish I'd have designed my own page more thoroughly!!!

Hey all, this is a new 3D engine I've been working on. It probably has bugs! If you run into problems, please let me know your browser and operating system. Thankee!

in the dungeon/cave to the right of start, there was nothing behind the sliding door.

the gold key from that cave worked for the door in the left cave as well as the right, without me having to grab a second key.
